Wednesday 1st July - walks **** – Kersey and Lavenham – sunny periods and hot!

Walk 1 - Kersey.

I had a plan today as the sun was out and the wind was light so got up fairly early and did my exercises in the back garden before breakfast outside before packing a picnic. We left Felixstowe at 10.30 with Mag no idea where we were going as we headed to Ipswich before turning off to Hadleigh. We took the Lavenham road before doing a detour to visit Kersey, famous for its ford and old timber frame houses. We parked by the church high above the town and walked down through the main street, the highlight being the large variety of hollyhocks growing mainly out of the cracks in the pavement:) We cross the ford which has a trickle of water running through. Up past the water pump and out the other side where the rolling countryside full of nearly ready wheat and barley, never seen so many grain fields, Suffolk is lovely! Back to the ford to take a few pics before returning to the van to continue.

Walk 2 - Lavenham.

We continue to Suffolks famous old wool town full of old rickety timber frame buildings and park by the huge church for a quick walk round the town, to be honest it was not our favourite, we did not like the white washed timber houses or the touristy shops sell loads of smelly stuff we are not interested in, with a large number of tea rooms with a busy road running through the middle, we walked through the churchyard before returning to the van, busy places are certainly not our thing! We decided we should go to Polstead pond for our picnic so Mag puts that in her phone and we drive along lovely country lanes in beautiful rolling countryside with yet more grain fields! We finally arrive at the lovely pond and set up our sits on the bank and have a brilliant lunch feeding a family of ducks but the carp were by far the best as they came up after the duck food, in fact there was carp everywhere with many jumping out of the water, top top time! We were actually fairly close to the A 14 and back to Felixstowe to send a few pics to the TV weather!
